EdgeMode has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the City Council of Mora to develop a large-scale data center campus in the Spanish city of Mora, located in the Toledo province of Castile-La Mancha. The facility, known as DC Malpica, will have a capacity of 300 MW and is backed by a €3 billion (approximately US$3.4 billion) investment. Once operational, the data center will support artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing, and cloud services. The non-binding MoU is set to last for 24 months, during which financing and permitting will need to be secured. The City Council has committed to providing institutional support, coordinating administrative departments, and designating the site as a Project of Strategic Interest. EdgeMode also aims to help Mora establish itself as a significant hub for AI infrastructure in Spain. The data center will utilize solid oxide fuel cell microgrid solutions, in line with a collaboration with an unnamed provider earlier this year. This energy solution will span EdgeMode’s network in Spain and facilitate scalable deployments as the firm’s requirements grow. EdgeMode claims this solution will enable faster delivery of AI data center capacity.Charlie Faulkner, CEO of EdgeMode, stated, "This agreement marks a critical milestone in the development of one of Europe’s prime locations for data center capacity, and our collaboration with the City of Mora.By establishing this institutional framework, we can navigate the development process efficiently while ensuring that DC Malpica delivers lasting economic value, high-quality employment, and technological advancement to the local community without compromising on environmental standards."Emilio Bravo Peña, Mayor of Mora, expressed confidence that this project will position Mora as a leading town not just in Spain, but in Europe, suggesting that it will attract companies from various sectors necessary for the project.DC Malpica will be strategically located near Madrid, which has emerged as a hub for AI and digital infrastructure alongside Barcelona. EdgeMode plans to establish eight sites in Spain with a total capacity exceeding 4.35 GW and intends to open Tier-3-ready AI campuses in the country.According to Arizton Intelligence, the Spanish data center market was valued at US$3.3 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow to US$8.83 billion by 2031, driven by the establishment of data centers beyond major cities. This MoU between EdgeMode and the City Council of Mora aims to contribute to Spain’s increasing demand for digital infrastructure.
